BOHS offering £1000 bursary for health and professionals

The British Occupational Hygiene Society (BOHS) are offering a bursary worth over £1,000 for BOHS qualifications.

BOHS’s Bursary for Modules (BfM) Scheme offers financial assistance for health and safety professionals  already working in the field, to help them embark on a new career chapter: by taking the first steps towards entering the occupational hygiene profession, and by learning more about managing work-related health risks.

What it covers

International modules eligible for the BfM Scheme include the following:

  • W507: Health effects of hazardous substances
  • W501: Measurement of hazardous substances (including risk assessment)
  • W505: Control of hazardous substances
  • W503: Noise and an introduction to vibration
  • W201: Basic principles of occupational hygiene

The Bursary will cover the cost of the first module taken by the candidate (this includes the training course and the written examination).

Winners of the bursaries will also receive free BOHS membership for the rest of the year, and mentoring – if desired – from a BOHS member to encourage continuing engagement with the module system, as a route into the occupational hygiene profession.

How it could help you

Alex Taylor is a past recipient of a BOHS bursary, and now works as an Occupational Hygienist for Validate Consulting.  At the time of applying for the bursary, Alex was working in the field of Occupational Health. Talking about the value of a BOHS bursary, he commented:

“Being awarded the bursary enabled me to gain valuable knowledge of the field of Occupational Hygiene, and without this opportunity I wouldn’t have been able to benefit from that experience. Ultimately, the bursary was instrumental in developing my career into the field of Occupational Hygiene – a field I really enjoy, and which has lots of career opportunities.”

How to apply for a Bursary

Applications are currently being accepted for BOHS’ BfM Scheme, with a closing date of 31 July 2017.  For full details of how to apply, please download the application form, to submit your entry by the end of July 2017. Full terms and conditions can be viewed in this document.
