A safe site for business

Access to occupation-specific, user-friendly health and safety information for small and medium-sized businesses just got easier and simpler, with the launch of version two of Safestartup.

Safestartup (www.safestartup.org) is a free interactive website specifically designed for small and medium-sized enterprisesor new business start-ups. It was created by IOSH in partnership with Norwich Union, and is supported by the Health and Safety Executive and the Small Business Service.

A new version of the site has recently been launched and now includes occupation-specific information on the most common hazards, and offers some good practice control measures, which can be used to minimise risks for a range of small business types.

Richard Jones, director of technical affairs at IOSH, said: “Safestartup is about making jargon-free, basic health and safety information available to small businesses in an easy to understand way englishcollege.com. The new version of the site allows visitors to target the information they receive to their own area, which is a vital addition.

“So now, whether you’re a builder or hairdresser, a cleaner or mechanic, you can access user-friendly health and safety information, and it won’t cost you a penny!”

Safestartup provides information for businesses in Great Britain, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. When you log on to the site, you are greeted by ‘Alex’, a cartoon robot, who guides you through a number of essential business topics, including; registering a business, health and safety policy, insurance, reporting accidents, risk assessment and welfare.

There is also a series of links to more detailed sources of information, and the site itself includes access to useful contacts, publications, assessment tools, pro formas, and checklists.

So spread the word: if you know of a business that needs basic health and safety information, point them to www.safestartup.org
