Cynthia Maua wins SHP’s International Rising Star Award

Cynthia Maua, Environment Health & Safety Officer, PTC seconded to Kenya Breweries Ltd, takes the SHP International Rising Star Award for her positive impact on others.

Cynthia MauaCynthia has transformed EHS at the utilities and facilities departments. She reviewed the OSH practices in line with best practice standards and local legislation and identified gaps which she championed to ensure closure on the shop floor as well as documentation of learning. Cynthia is currently working on partnering with the community to raise awareness of health and safety among school going children and care givers.

Cynthia demonstrated “great work in an emerging country with an immature safety culture” said judges. Her initiative to go beyond her workplace made her a stand-out candidate for the SHP Rising Star International Award.

She also had a positive influence on people outside the workplace, within school communities and helped restructure the neglected safety culture in those industries. Judges commented that her “positive impact helped reform the immature safety culture”.
